Interior Magician

I introduced you to Lizzy last week.

I wasn’t sure where we we go with my home. I love my home, but while I have an eye for photography, and can put together a mean gallery, I do NOT have an eye for interior design. She swept through, and pointed out little changes we could make that would cost little, but have a big impact and pull the place together.

For example? She brought over baskets, so I could empty my games cluttering the corner into zip bags and tuck them away.

She pointed out that my living room rug was too small, and thus made the room look more diminutive. So I bought a new one off a neighbor for $18, and then was able to move the old one to the basement to make the sitting area more cohesive.

But the piece de resistance? She narrowed in on my most loathed spot: the entryway. When our house was remodeled in the 90’s, the original entryway that led into the kitchen was closed off, so the main room could be opened. That left us with a dark narrow hallway at the entrance. The surprise on people’s faces, when they emerged from the canal and actually saw light again was amusing, but it was such a sad start to a visit.

BEFORE:

She started throwing around foreign terms: Wainscotting? Board and Batten? She started showing me images, and I knew she was on to something. She asked where my guests hang their belongings, and I jokingly made a motion over the house. “Let’s fix that. And we’ll bring in colors from your dining room chairs, so there’s a flow from the entry into the house.”

DURING:

The results? I’m excited to usher people into the home. The space has color and purpose, despite its size, without looking even more cramped.

AFTER:

I had spent years lamenting: I can’t build a closet, I can’t fit a table, I guess I’m just stuck. Lizzy’s creativity breathed fresh air into a space I considered hopeless.

Your New Friends

If you live in Atlanta and haven’t met the Kosoff family yet, YOU MUST.

Warm, friendly, and hilarious, your life needs them. Birmingham’s loss, Atlanta’s WIN.

And it’s all of them. Sometimes you find you click with a family member or two. But 5/5 Kosoffs are awesome.

We were very focused on this session. They needed a family portrait for their holiday card. We set it up, made a few adjustments as we went, nabbed the image they were going for, and were done. Too soon. I would have been good with hanging with them a while longer.

The Chameleon

I’m grateful that the Jewish Moms of Atlanta (shout-out!!) directed Eriana straight into my studio. She’s a woman you notice. Full of intrigue and a winding story of how she found herself on an unexpected journey: both professionally and personally.

She’s starting work at Honeywell as a Sr. Business Development Manager. She has a fantastically varied history before this in the beauty industry, and then connecting baby products to big name brands. I asked if she did relatively the same work in all of these different sectors, but nope, she’s always crushing something new. Seriously, check this woman out: https://www.linkedin.com/in/erianarivera-rozo

It’s no surprise that she’s so prepared to transform herself in so many different roles, companies, and industries. She told me a fantastic story of her family origins in Columbia, and her mother’s discovery that she had Jewish lineage. The Spanish Inquisition not only caused so many to flee, but to then bury their identities. But her mother, and Eriana, embraced the discovery. It didn’t negate what they knew or who they believed themselves to be, it enriched it. It’s evident that Eriana sees each new role and revelation as an opportunity to learn, grow, embrace, and elevate.

Welcome to the family!!

Let me introduce you to Corrie. And then, let me tell you why Corrie is a big deal for us.

I’ve only just begun to get to know her, but here’s what’s clear: she has passion and drive, but seeks balance and tempers her decisions by really checking in with herself. She’s energized by change and opportunity. She’s very talented, transitioning from Marketing at Turner Broadcasting into Real Estate. She’s got a couple spunky kiddos who tell her exactly what they think. She really understands people. She asked my husband to take a personality assessment- and told him spot on what he was before he revealed his results.

And here’s why all of this is so important to my family…

My husband and I are both small business owners. You already know what I do. My husband got into real estate, grew his business, took on Pam, an amazing partner, and then was hired by his brokerage to coach other Realtors. He now coaches 79 Realtors, and helps them explore their goals, desires, and actualize the steps necessary to grow and better serve their clients. He was recently able to hire Candace to assist with coaching!

The twist? While helping others launch and scale their businesses, Billy determined that his clients deserved more attention and a higher level of service. SO NOW THE FAMILY HOME GROUP HAS CORRIE AT THE HELM!! She is here to help the business explode: to provide top-notch service, and to execute the vision Billy has always had for his real estate team.

If you have ever started your own business, you understand the excitement, the nerves, the amazement, of seeing your baby to a place where you bring in leadership.

Corrie is the match we’ve been seeking. WELCOME TO THE FAMILY, CORRIE!

Nice To Meet You!

Q: Rachel, how do you get most of your clients?

A: Via Instagram, Stacie messaged me, and said she got my name on NextDoor. So the answer? I get my clients through YOU!

Stacie was looking for a referral, because she’s going through a TON of transitions, and needed a refresh on her headshot that reflected these next steps in life. Work in plastics manufacturing, a new home, and a new little walker under her new roof! I’m thrilled that someone made the connection for us, and it was so energizing to end our dynamic session excitedly discussing future sessions and her friends’ photography needs! Now she gets to pass it on.

Bold

Falynn is a heavily pursued architect, who recently transitioned firms and was ultimately wooed by OTJ Architects.

Her ingenuity keeps her creating and building both professionally and personally. Based out of Washington D.C. and Atlanta, she’s continuously impacting both her work and her community. I’m proud to have been a project of hers myself, one could say, and be able to admire her not just as a brilliant woman but as a dear friend.

Our Introduction

My husband was plugging away as a realtor, feeling fine about his progress and his brokerage. Then he had a stellar transaction with Megan Dwyer, who told him that his true home was Keller Williams. She persisted. She checked in with him. Exasperated, he relented and scheduled a meeting with her market center’s Team Leader. He left telling me he was curious about what would be said, but he had no intention of switching. Fast forward many years, and he now IS the Team Leader of the market center. Megan changed our lives. She introduced our family to an organization that stands behind its belief system: “G-d, Family, then Business.”

Capturing Megan’s headshot was an honor. With new adventures ahead of her, we wish her success, exploration, health, prosperity, and vision.

Welcome!

Hi! Have we met yet? Even though I'm frequently called "Shayna," it's actually my daughter's middle name. I'm Rachel! I'm a native of the Atlanta area, where I currently live with my husband, daughter, and son. I'm a rollercoaster junkie, sushi addict, advanced scuba diver, and list maker.

That thing you think photographers do? Nope, I'm doing something different.
Receiving a bunch of digitals? That's like paying a baker, and having them hand you the ingredients and telling you to "finish it yourself."
I put custom finished art on your walls. Because your grandchildren aren't going to dig through your dropbox for the moments that matter.

Follow me as I share adventures, new works, educational info, and some personal entertainment.
